Abstract
The current study seeks to examine the effect of factors of lonely life on life satisfaction of single-person households by age group, and suggest measures to prevent lonely life for single-person households. To this end, 254 middle-aged and 337 older adultswere singled out from the social research data of Daejeon city compiled in 2021. Frequency analysis, mean comparison analysis, and multiple regression analysis were carried out. The findings indicated that single-person households that were middle-aged experienced more difficulties in terms of mental health, lack of connection with others, and isolation from local communities than older adults living alone. The result of the multiple regression analysis showed that for single-person households that were middle-aged, dissatisfaction with ¡®housing¡¯ and ¡®surroundings¡¯, ¡®depression felt the day before¡¯, and ¡®lack of communication between generations¡¯ had negative effects on life satisfaction, while ¡®dissatisfaction with housing¡¯, ¡®financial hardship¡¯, ¡®worries from the day before¡¯, and ¡®lack of communication between generations¡¯ negatively impacted on life satisfaction for older adults. Taking into account those differences between the age groups, the current study put forward policy and practical recommendations to prevent lonely life.
